DIY Giant Fish for Jonah

It seems that there is no end to the giant fish population on Pinterest these days. But just in case you missed them, here is one more DIY post for making a giant fish.

Materials:

  • black tablecloths or sheets in the color you want your fish to be
  • a pup tent
  • white felt
  • black felt or paper
  • red paper (I used tissue because it came in large enough sheets)
  • green crepe paper
  • scotch tape
  • safety pins or clamps
It is pretty self explanatory. You just cover the tent with whatever material you can find. You can use safety pins or black binder clips to clamp the cloth around the opening of the fish's mouth and any other areas where the fabric will not stay in place by itself. I used black round tablecloths that I had from my daughter's wedding.

If you use cloth, the felt eyes will stick to it. I cut out two big white felt eyes. Then I cut black felt for the pupils. Felt will stick to felt. You can use black construction paper in a pinch. If you rough up one side with an eraser, it will stick to the felt.

I cut the tongue from tissue paper and taped it onto a piece of poster board for stiffness.

Then I hung "seaweed" (crepe paper attached with tape) from the roof of the tent.
